When is your mammogram covered by health insurance?
Every woman, regardless of age, can come for a preventive examination. However, only in certain cases the mammogram is covered by health insurance. In other cases, the women has to pay for the examination herself.
- You are older than 45 years.
- It has been more than 2 years since your last mammogram.
- You have a referral from your gynecologist or general practitioner for a preventive (screening) mammogram.
- You have a valid health insurance.
Beyond national mammography screening, all health insurance companies contribute to their clients' specific prevention programmes.
Except for the OZP programme (where we arrange the reimbursement with the insurance company ourselves), the client must pay for the examination on the spot and then apply to her health insurance company for a contribution.
The actual amount of contributions and the exact terms and conditions of individual insurers may change over time and should be checked directly with the individual insurer, e.g. on their website.
